In this episode of The Wild Party Podcast, I sit down with Helen Plehn, the visionary founder of Helen Creates Beauty. Helen’s path is anything but traditional—from PhD student and corporate interior designer to spiritual guide, intuitive artist, and entrepreneur. From Academia to Awakening
Helen’s early life followed a familiar script: she excelled academically, moved from China to Hong Kong and eventually to the United States, and enrolled in a PhD program in statistics. On the outside, she was a success story publishing academic papers, engaged to be married, and on track for a secure future.
But internally, Helen was struggling. In 2011, she hit a breaking point with anxiety and depression, leading her to seek therapy and, eventually, to discover yoga and meditation. What started as a group class at the oldest yoga studio in Philadelphia quickly became a daily practice. Within three months, she tapered off her anxiety medication completely. Meditation, she says, became her medication.
Rediscovering Her Creative Calling
A Vedic astrology reading during her teacher training opened a door Helen hadn’t considered: her dharma, or soul purpose, was to create. That revelation awakened her childhood dream of becoming an architect or designer, dreams she had buried under cultural expectations.
Helen returned to school for interior design, eventually launching her first business that combined Feng Shui, custom pattern design, and art. A third-generation Feng Shui master and daughter of a painter and calligrapher, Helen began integrating spiritual and creative elements into her design work. It wasn’t long before she realized she could combine art and soul work into something much bigger.
The Kundalini Awakening That Changed Everything
After seven years of daily meditation, Helen experienced a kundalini awakening in 2018–2019. Her third eye opened, allowing her to see spirit realms and auras. That moment was the catalyst for her to channel the Aura Color Wheel system, a spiritual tool that helps people identify their soul gifts, uncover inner blocks, and align with their true purpose.
From there, Helen’s offerings expanded: she began painting aura-inspired portraits, channeling soul messages, designing crystal grid artworks, and launching courses that guide people through energetic healing and spiritual growth.
